A decant is a small amount of a fragrance, taken from the original bottle and put into a smaller atomiser. It is the same perfume, from the same bottle, in a size that costs a fraction of the whole. For fragrances that cost many thousands of pounds a bottle in Egypt, it is often the only sensible way to own more than one.

Why people buy decants

  • To wear a fragrance properly before committing to a bottle. A 4 ML decant is about 40 to 50 sprays — two or three weeks of regular use.
  • To own a wardrobe instead of one bottle. Five decants of five fragrances cost less than one full bottle of most of them.
  • To travel. A 6 or 10 ML atomiser goes in a pocket or a carry-on bag.

Decant or sample?

The two words get mixed up. Here they mean different things:

  • A sample is a small vial made by the house itself — Amouage's 2 ML, Matière Première's 1.5 ML. It is sealed as the house makes it and nobody pours it.
  • A decant is poured in Cairo from an original bottle into a clean atomiser of 4, 6 or 10 ML, when you order.

Both are the real fragrance. A sample is for trying; a decant is for wearing.

How to tell a decant seller you can trust

The risk with decants is obvious: once perfume leaves its bottle you have to trust whoever poured it. Things worth checking:

  1. Do they tell you where each fragrance comes from? An honest seller names the bottle and will show it.
  2. Are prices plausible? A decant priced far below what the full bottle costs per millilitre is a warning, not a bargain.
  3. Do they sell clones or "inspired by" fragrances too? A shop that mixes originals and copies gives you no way to know which you got. We sell originals only.
  4. Can you see real reviews, with photographs, from real orders? Every review on our product pages is left by a customer through a link sent after their order.
