Arabians Tonka is the Montale people recommend when someone asks for sweet oud with real strength. It was launched in 2019, and Fragrantica files it as an oriental woody fragrance for women and men. It takes the saffron and oud of the Gulf and pushes them towards something much sweeter and easier to wear.

The notes

  • Opens: saffron, bergamot
  • Heart: agarwood (oud), Bulgarian rose
  • Dries down: tonka bean, sugar cane, amber, white musk, oakmoss

How it wears

Saffron arrives first, with a little bergamot to lift it. Oud and rose then form a classic Middle Eastern pairing, but they do not stay dry for long. Tonka and sugar cane pour sweetness over the base, and amber and musk carry it for hours.

The result is rich, sweet and very present. Oakmoss adds a small, dark edge that keeps the sugar from becoming a dessert. Montale is known for strong fragrances, and this one is no exception, so be careful with the sprayer.

When to wear it

  • Best: autumn and winter, evenings, weddings and gatherings.
  • Egyptian summer: avoid it in the daytime. Even in the evening, one spray is enough.
  • At the office: better left for after work.
  • If you like: Mancera Red Tobacco, or sweet fragrances with real presence, this is in the same spirit.

Why a decant makes sense here

Sweet oud is a strong opinion, and a full bottle of something this powerful lasts years. A 4 ML decant is enough for many wears and tells you whether you want it to be your signature. Our guide to oud helps if you are still finding your level.
